The most important photograph - ever

Over ten consecutive days between December 18 and December 28, 1995, the Hubble Space Telescope took 342 separate exposures and revealed approx. 3000 galaxies in an area that covers two parts in a million of the whole sky.

A new, deeper image was constructed in 2004, and a 3D-animation was created by Nasa to illustrate a fly-through of the estimated 10,000 galaxies in the picture.
