The article The great brain is located externally
asks the question
"How many of the things you 'know' do you have memorized?"
PpcSoft iKnow is created for this exact purpose: offload your brain by letting PpcSoft iKnow remember all the small details so that you can concentrate on the big picture. You don't have to memorize all the details.
"You need only know how to find information, to be able to use it after a trivial delay"
From one of the comments:
"I am quite happy to offload some of my memory and computation to technology, and I expect myself to be effectively smarter than if I did not have access to that technology."
In a related article, Knowledge is power, Thom Blake tries to show that "a claim to knowledge (in the sense of knowledge about the world) is a claim to have access to information".
Do you know because you have it memorized ?
Do you know because you have it written down ?
Do you know because you know where to find the answer ?
Do you really know something if it isn't in your brain ?

The article contains many great tips, like

We are now busy "spreading the word" about PpcSoft iKnow, and we are very excited about the feedback we have received so far !
We are contacting a lot of magazines and bloggers directly to get some feedback/reviews from knowledge management experts around the world.
We want to improve PpcSoft iKnow any way we can, so any feedback, both positive and negative, is highly appreciated. Professional reviewers and bloggers should contact us for a review copy.
We believe PpcSoft iKnow will be a great fit in a larger knowledge management strategy, where PpcSoft iKnow is the personal, low-cost, low-risk, quick-win tool to get people started with knowledge management.
The first step in knowledge management is gathering knowledge. Once you've done that, you may consider which knowledge is suitable for which people, and which tool to use and in what form the knowledge should be shared.
PpcSoft iKnow is highly optimized for collecting and connecting various unstructured fragments of information, and also optimized for easy-of-use and quick and easy retrieval. PpcSoft iKnow is not designed for sharing and communication - that is still a challenge for "traditional" knowledge management and social media tools.
Interesting sidenote; there seems to be a lot of lawyers working with knowledge management, and they also seem to be "at the technological edge" with regards to social tools like LinkedIn and Twitter....

Bergen, Norway June 3, 2009 - PpcSoft is proud to announce the release of PpcSoft iKnow, a personal knowledge management tool for the Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 platforms, specially designed to help professional knowledge workers manage information overload and increase their productivity.
"People are drowning in information," said Atle Iversen, founder of PpcSoft. "Google has indexed over 1 trillion web pages, and more pages are created every day. You get information from the web, meetings, e-mails, Facebook, Twitter etc, and you probably already store information in notebooks, e-mails, post-its, documents, text files and scratch paper etc. With all this information, being able to quickly find the information you actually need to do your job is getting much harder."
Information overload was named "Problem of the year 2008" by research firm Basex, and now PpcSoft is proud to present an easy to use, but powerful solution.
PpcSoft iKnow is designed to simplify people's life by allowing them to easily store their knowledge in one place, and then quickly find it again when they need it. People collect all their important information in simple notes that are automatically connected, and multiple ways of searching let people instantly find their information again.
PpcSoft iKnow is like a "personal web" where people create small notes (instead of web pages) in a text editor, and if any word exists as a note, it will automatically convert the words into hyperlinks to the note. You may then browse your notes just like you would browse the World Wide Web.
With more sources and more sharing of information, the amount of information each individual much cope with is rapidly increasing. PpcSoft iKnow is optimized for storing and finding the information each individual needs and help them manage their personal knowledge to become more productive.
