Using PpcSoft iKnow for movies

Here is an example showing how you can use PpcSoft iKnow for movies (or list of CDs, books, games and other hobbies).

You may start by creating a list of movies with the most important information added to the list.

In this case, the RottenTomatoes score, the length of the movie and a screenshot.

Notice that the name of the screenshot link has the score added to it.

There are two reasons for this:
1. Avoid conflict with the name of the note ("Avatar" is an autolink and "Avatar 83" is a hyperlink)

2. When you browse the images, you'll quickly see the score in the preview text (see the example to the right - notice that the preview shows 'matrix 86').

If you click on a preview, you'll see a detailed version with more information.

By organizing your information like this, you'll be able to see all important information about the movie at a glance.

For your favorite movies you might want to create a separate note for each where you can add more information and more images.

By using some 'clever tricks' you may also improve your search for movies.

In the example to the right you'll notice that the score is indicated with ':83%'.

By using colon immediately before the score, you can search for all movies in the 80-89 range by searching for ':8'.

Similarly, if you want an action movie, you can search for ':action' as each category is listed with a colon in front.

Create template for new notes When you've decided what information you want to include for each movie, you can create a template note that will be the starting point for each movie.

In the example to the left you'll see that title, score, category etc are included in the template.

For each new movie, go to 'xMovie', click 'Create new note from template' icon (or Ctrl+Shift+N) and give the new note a name.

More tips

- If you have a copy of the movie stored on your harddrive, you can link to it using drag-and-drop (or insert hyperlink). You can then start the movie directly from the note.

- If you have lots of movies, you may want to create a separate iKnow datafile that contains only movies. If you copy iknow.exe and name it 'iKnowMovies.exe' or anything other than 'iknow.exe', then you'll get an independent application that you can run at the same time as iKnow (see Multiple instances for more information).

- You may create separate notes and lists for actors and directors, and they will all automatically be connected as you enter more information.

- If people often borrow your movies, you may want to create a separate note for this so that you have control of where they are.

- You may copy hyperlinks to images from note to note, and iKnow will only save one copy of the image. This means that you can have a screenshot of a movie in a list, in the note about the movie and in a note about an actor etc and it won't take any additional storage space.

- You may create a separate "Movies to watch" (or buy) note (if you call it "2watch" it'll be quick to find) with links to reviews etc.

The possibilities are almost endless - enjoy :-) !
