Collectors
Collecting includes seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying, storing, and maintaining stuff.
A collector likes to keep all records and documents "just in case they might need it someday".
Do you like to keep all your business cards, plane tickets, pictures, wine labels, invoices, voice memos and hand-written notes "just in case" ?
If you do, PpcSoft iKnow may not be the right tool for you. Or maybe it is....
PpcSoft iKnow is a personal knowledge management tool - a tool for helping you store and find the stuff you need when you need it.
An important part of finding what you need is being able to let go of stuff you don't need.
Saving every business card from a conference does not make it easier to find the one business card you need from an important client you met.
Saving the 2-3 important business cards while archiving the rest (in a drawer or in the trash can) will make it much easier to find what you need when you need it.
It may take just as much time to filter out the 2-3 important cards as finding the one you need to call an important client - but you only filter them out once, instead of searching through them all every time you need to call the client.
Imagine that you have 5 potential clients/customers out of a 100 business cards, and you need to contact them each 2-3 times each in a year. Do you still think keeping all 100 business cards and searching through them every time is better ?
PpcSoft iKnow is very powerful, and the professional edition will let you store as many as 100,000 notes (and each note can have lots of links and images) - but you shouldn't dump 'everything' in it just because you can.
If you want to become more efficient, take a look at using PpcSoft iKnow for pragmatics and see how it can help you...
