PpcSoft iKnow features
Synchronize multiple computers
For security reasons PpcSoft iKnow does not allow synchronizing to the internet directly (all your data is stored locally on your computer, not in the cloud).
PpcSoft iKnow is a professional tool for knowledge workers, and may therefore often contain sensitive data for your company (or you). However, the data is stored in plain text in order to be accessible from any platform using any text editor and is therefore only saved locally to protect the data.
You may store your iKnow datafile on a USB memory stick, and you can also use 3rd party services (like Dropbox, SugarSync and Jungledisk) to synchronize your data.
All images you paste into iKnow will be stored in a subfolder located where your datafile is stored. The links to the images are relative. This means that if you synchronize the datafolder including the subfolders, all your hyperlinks to your images will work on different computers.
Synchronize all your data
Use either a USB memory stick or 3rd party services like Dropbox, Sugarsync and JungleDisk to synchronize your iKnow datafile and all your images.
For maximum security, use a Truecrypt container.
Example using Dropbox:
If you want to synchronize your iKnow-data across multiple computers, you must
1. Close PpcSoft iKnow.
2. Then you move the iKnow datafile (e.g., 'my.iknow' or whatever you use) and any subfolders (e.g.,'images', 'dict' etc) to a Dropbox folder (cut/paste).
When you restart iKnow, it will complain that it cannot find the datafile (if it doesn't complain, you haven't moved the correct datafile).
3. Now, simply drag the iknow datafile into PpcSoft iKnow and it will automatically connect to it (you may also use File/Open, but dragging is easier).
That's it ! PpcSoft iKnow will now remember the location of your datafile inside the Dropbox folder, and Dropbox will automatically synchronize the data when you exit PpcSoft iKnow (it will not synchronize any changes while you're using iKnow).
Simply repeat this procedure on each computer you want to synchronize (you may use PpcSoft iKnow on as many computers as you want !).
Synchronize selected notes only
